HOMOSEXUALITY AND THE CHURCH
A PROPHETIC VIEW
Homosexuality and all the different expressions attached to it must surely be one of the biggest bones of contention in this current world. In some countries people can get officially killed for homosexuality, must endure the utmost abuse, while in other countries the levels of acceptance can vary from moderate to absolute. In the secular world the shift has become rapidly towards acceptance of a mindset that has more tentacles than an octopus. However, the question we want to seek an answer for in this post is: What is the option for the Church as a unique Divine Institution, about this highly contentious and explosive issue.
THE HISTORY OF HOMOSEXUALITY
Believe it or not, but homosexuality is with humanity since the first family was raised just outside the confines of the Garden of Eden. Now the Bible hide very interesting information in the names of its characters. If one look at the names of the first four persons on the Bible’s world stage it adds some special dimension to the narrative. Let’s see:
The Bible says (Gen 4:1) “ADAM made love to his wife EVE, and she became pregnant and gave birth to CAIN. She said, "With the help of the LORD I have brought forth a man." (Gen 4:2) Later she gave birth to his brother ABEL...”
So, let us carefully research the meaning behind these names and see how a new horizon opens right in front of our eyes.
CAIN AND ABEL
The name Adam means “from the dust of the ground”, giving us an idea that God evolved humans from the ground. We discussed this in a previous post. Around the name of Eve there is so much to be said that a few books about her will perhaps not even be enough. However, for the sake of our topic, we want to ponder the names of Cain and Abel, because within their names there are some startling facts hidden about the roots of homosexuality.
CAIN:
Cain means “to erect, to create”, like in creating a genealogical line, a son through whom the lineage can be extended, a son through whom one can have the pleasure of sharing this life with your grandchildren, even great grandchildren if one be so blessed…
Eve endorsed this view, when she said, after the birth of Cain: “I have gotten a man from the Lord.”
Eve saw Cain as she and her husband’s (and thus humanity’s) means of being “extant”, that is “to be existent”! If it were not for Cain, humanity would have died out again when the “curse” of Gen.3:19 was carried out and when the earth would again swallow the “dust” of physical life called Adam and Eve.
ABEL:
On the other hand, Abel means “emptiness, vanity, something transitory and unsatisfactory”. Let us give the Dictionary the last word about this description of Abel:
If we still have reservations about Abel being “different” from Cain about his sexuality, let’s have a look at the words of Eve, after she was blessed with Seth:
Gen 4:25 – “And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.”
“Another” here does not just mean a replacement. The Hebrew word that is translated here means to loiter, to procrastinate, like young adults delay their having children, because of many reasons. In the case of Abel this delay is perpetual, and because of a very definite reason!
The “seed” that Eve received “instead of Abel” tells it all. It means “posterity”, to produce children, to “be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth…” the command “male and female” in God’s image must fulfil. (Gen.1:28)
ABRAHAM, FATHER OF HETEROSEXUALITY
The life of Abel is very brief and fleeting. Many Bible expositors have just as many explanations about the reason why God accepted the offering of Abel and rejected the offering of Cain. Those explanations are all conjecture. The author of the Letter to the Hebrews writes that faith made a difference between Cain and Abel’s offerings, but the truth is: God is sovereign. He does not need to supply reasons for loving or hating, rejecting, or accepting, but His actions are always for a definite purpose. The Bible says:
Rom.9:10-16 – “Not only that, but Rebekah's children were conceived at the same time by our father Isaac. Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad—in order that God's purpose in election might stand: not by works but by him who calls—she was told, "The older will serve the younger." Just as it is written: "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated." What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion." It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God's mercy.”
And yet, we can see how God carefully steered the genealogical line by a process of “election” from Adam to Abraham, through Isaac, through Jacob, through Judah, through David, through Solomon… to Jesus!
This is heterosexual physical humanity, the “male and female image of God” that answers to the command to be “fruitful and increase”. This part of humanity includes all the so-called “races” (nations) that science subdivided humans into, judged on physical appearance. Here the main categories are based on especially skin tone, mostly the result of geographical origins, and are as follows:
- White
- Black
- Coloured
- Tan
There is also a heterosexual spiritual side to humanity. Here the “nations” are subdivided by religion of which there are seven mainstreams with all their branches and subdivisions namely:
- Christianity
- Hinduism
- Buddhism
- Science
- Reverse Theism (atheism)
- Islam
- Judaism
These religions are classified “male or female” according to the application of their religious commands. I will use the example of Judaism and Christianity to illustrate. Judaism is a physical religion that teaches bodily atonement (“purifying of the flesh” – Heb.9:13) and is the male counterpart of Christianity (female) that teaches the atonement of the soul (“conscience” – Heb.9:14).
Below is a table that set out some distinctions between physical Judaism and Spiritual Christianity:
There is no pattern of adhesion of spiritual humanity and physical humanity. People of any “race” adopt any religion that appeals to their spirit, which simply means that one will find people of all “colours” anytime in any religion.
The distinction between and recognition of heterosexual physical humanity and heterosexual spiritual humanity help us to understand the role of Abraham in the Divine setup.
God had a dual purpose for Abraham:
ABEL, FATHER OF INTEROSEXUALITY
The perfect God who used the imperfect tool of evolution to create man from the dust of the ground, knows very well that humankind have many imperfections, both physical and spiritual. That is a fact that is manifest all around us.
Like Abraham was chosen by God to be a Father for both Physical and Spiritual Heterosexuality, Abel was predestined to become a Father of both Physical and Spiritual Interosexuality.
Physical Interosexuality: It is the condition of sexuality that can be described as all shades of grey that separates the “white and Black” of male and female relations. Here homosexuality may be the most common name for something that has more tentacles than an octopus. We are not going to discuss all the different forms of Interosexuality here, but you are free to click this link to learn more:
http://thepbhscloset.weebly.com/a-list-of-genders--sexualities-and-their-definitions.html
Although it is called Physical Interosexuality, it is a condition that is part of a human’s spiritual makeup, the very same way that a male/female orientation is much more than just physical sexual organs, but part of the spiritual, thinking, reasoning human being.
The reason for calling it physical Interosexuality is only because it often finds expression in physical sexual and sensual relations with other physical Interosexual humans.
Spiritual Interosexuality: This has to do with religions. We already described the difference between male and female religions, so this condition is the amalgamating of different and opposing religions to become more acceptable to some and is known as Syncretism.
Like Physical Interosexuality, Spiritual Interosexuality is also with mankind from the beginning. Since Adam was furnished with the God-breath (Gen.2:7), man had this connection with God which we can identify as religion. Those religions may have been nature based or heaven based, but it was the hub around which cultures developed.
As cultures expanded their borders and usurped others, the religions intermingled. This is what happened with Christianity. One read in many places like Acts15 and Acts 21:21ff how Judaism and Christianity was syncretized. Christianity also took on many doctrines from the pre-Christian era Roman religion and everywhere in the world Christianity expanded to. The local religions seeped into its doctrines and clung desperately and successfully to this “new” religion for survival.
This is in short, a description of Physical and Spiritual Interosexuality. These humans are both physically and spiritually also Gods Children, but they fall under a different classification as male and female. To them God also appointed a human father figure, and that person is none other than Abel.
Of Abel the New Testament has only glowing testimony. Jesus called Abel “righteous” (Mat.23:35); Hebrews 11:4 commended the faith of Abel:
“By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.”
Yes, the “faith of Abel still speaks”, even in the 21st century on behalf of Interosexual humans. The same qualification of Agape Love that draws Heterosexual Humanity into the Kingdom of God, draws Interosexual humans into the Kingdom of God.
Unlike humans, God do not judge humanity on outward appearance, but by what emanates from the heart (1Sam.16:7). If the law of Love is written on the walls of the hearts of Interosexual humans, God regard it with the same approval of that of heterosexual humans (Rom.2:14-16).
Although God make a distinction between heterosexual humans and Interosexual humans on earth, there is no such distinction in heaven. When we are finished with the trials and tribulations of this life on earth, death separates us from this imperfect mortal and “vile” body and God fits us out with a “glorious body” (Phi.3:21) for the afterlife, were nobody “marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven” (Mat.22:30)
INTEROSEXUALITY AND THE CHURCH
We’ve now seen that the current system of using male (man) and female (woman) as a basis for the classification of the different orientations is simply wrong, like it is wrong to call people just “black” or “white”, if you want to call humans names that is judged on outward appearances. Humanity is one race with a spectrum of skin tones and other minor differences, and likewise is the sexuality of humanity also like one rainbow with a spectrum of preferences!
A man is a man when he is sexually attracted only to a woman, and a woman is a woman when she is sexually attracted only to a man.
Gay is gay (to use one of the preferences of Interosexuality). A man cannot be gay, and a woman cannot be gay. A person who is sexually attracted to somebody with the same sex is gay. The same principle can be applied to people with other Interosexual orientations.
The Church of the 21st Century is lost in this maze of sexual orientation and preferences. The Church needs to get clarification on the issue of homosexuality so that she can lead in a uniform way. When we mention “homosexuality” here, we in fact refer to all those branches we’ve coined the name “Interosexuality” for.
The Church must know exactly what Jesus said when he spoke about divorce:
"Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?” “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So, they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.” (Mat.19:3-6)
So, what Jesus say is that for marriage "the Creator made them male and female", with the eye on procreation. There may be a multitude of reasons why a man and a woman are not able to have children, like so many examples in the Bible, but that does not move the goalposts.
That means the Church cannot go against the Will of JESUS and marry gays! The Church ONLY has jurisdiction to marry a man and a woman! The Apostle Paul also proclaimed the same ideal. In 1Tim.1:2 he writes that “A Bishop” (overseer-NIV) must be married to somebody of the opposite sex and it must be a monogamous relationship.
The Church must shake off the secular robe of the world and put on the robe of Jesus. The Secular government is there to lead humans from conception till the finality of natural death, while the Church is there to lead humans from conception to the sleep of natural death and on to the Kingdom of God.
The Church is not allowed to call anything impure that God has made clean." (Act.10:15) but the Church is also not allowed to call anything pure, that God has called impure, like 1Cor.6:9 -10 calls the roll: "Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men, nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."
The Church cannot dare call itself the Church of Jesus Christ if it goes against the teachings of the Apostles. The Church cannot decide on what is sin and what is not, what is acceptable and what is not. That is the prerogative of the Holy Spirit who is a Teacher employed by Jesus and who inspired the Apostles.
If the Church wants to robe practicing gays, it must be consistent and robe all practicing “sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, slanderers and swindlers”! Every government has a constitution to which its citizens must submit and the Bible is very clear that people who want to join the Church of Jesus Christ will have to submit themselves to the rules and regulations of the Constitution of the Church as laid out in the New Testament, which Jesus wrote with His Blood on the Cross and endorsed by His Resurrection from death.
The Bible also makes it clear that it is not only those called into the clergy who need to refrain from these activities, but everybody who submit to be under the jurisdiction of the Spirit of Jesus Christ and as executed by the Church:
“And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” (1Cor.6:11)
The Church cannot just preach these rules, it must also see that they are kept. In 1Cor.5:1-13 one read about a situation in the Church that lingered, until Apostle Paul set his foot firmly down, to bring that congregation to order.
In 1Cor.5:1-13 the Bible shows us very clearly how to deal with those members who do not toe the line:
“I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people—not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people. What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. "Expel the wicked person from among you." (1Co 5:1-13)
DOES GOD CONDEMN HOMOSEXUALITY?
Nowhere in the Bible does God condemn ingrained homosexuality with all its branches (Physical Interosexuality). No, God only prohibits the active practising of Homosexuality, and then, only within the confines of the Church of the Old Testament (Judaism) and the Church of the New Testament (Christianity). These Churches are bound by the Law for the Old Testament and by the Law of Love, together with the “teachings of the Apostles” (Acts.2:42) for the New Testament. The Churches also has no jurisdiction outside its borders, so it cannot prescribe to those outside in secular life or for other religions. God judges there!
Here are some verses that underscores the fact that God only condemns the active and not a passive Physical Interosexual:
Sodom and Gomorrah: Gen 19:5 – “They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.”
Jud.1:7 – In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.”
Lev.18:22 – “Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable.”
Lev.20:13 – “If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”
Rom.1:26-27 – “Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.”
1Ti 1:9-11 – We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.
The texts above lend itself to lots of discussion. However, these quoted texts are just to underscore the fact that God forbids active Interosexuality for His Churches of Judaism and Christianity.
This means that anybody who does not actively participate in Physical Interosexual relations are welcome in these Churches, if they submit to the constitution of these Churches, just like everybody else.
ONE CHURCH, THREE BRANCHES
But, take heart. There IS a way how active Interosexual people will be accepted in the Church of Christianity. That will be on the agenda for implementation when the Foundation of the United Church is laid and the Second Reformation gets under way. This will involve the prophecy of Rev.16:19 – “The great city split into three parts…” – to come to pass, which we will discuss in a follow-up chapter. However, before we jump to that chapter, click on this link and let us examine how Sola Scriptura takes a nosedive in the Church, because of its unholy handling of Homosexuality in the Church.
Amen.
The distinction between and recognition of heterosexual physical humanity and heterosexual spiritual humanity help us to understand the role of Abraham in the Divine setup.
God had a dual purpose for Abraham:
- To be the Father of Hetero- Physical Humanity, the different so-called “races”, by declaring him “Father of many nations”, including in that sense, Adam. Abraham became the physical Father of the “Seed of the Promise” (Jesus – Gal.3:19). Thus through Abraham the 2nd Adam becomes the progenitor of the 1st Adam and by that determination Jesus become the Father of humanity, the very reason why “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (Joh.3:16)
- To be the Father of hetero- spiritual humanity by the same declaration that made him the “Father of many nations” (Gen.17:5) In this sense he is the Father of all human hetero- spiritual mindsets in the world.
ABEL, FATHER OF INTEROSEXUALITY
