At the beginning of the Christian Church there were only Apostles and the faithful believers, but as the church grew it was needed to install a Teaching Structure. "So Christ himself gave the *Apostles, the *Prophets, the *Evangelists, the *Pastors and *Teachers..." (Eph.4:11)
BUT... what was the reason for these categories? The BIBLE says: "...to equip his people for works of service, SO THAT THE BODY OF CHRIST MAY BE BUILT UP." (v12). In other words, these categories are nothing but JOB DESCRIPTIONS! But what happened in the church? IT BECAME TITLES! Surely, Jesus is NOT impressed!
He said very straightforwardly: "But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and YOU ARE ALL BROTHERS." (MAT.23:7) Isn't it time for these "title-bearers" to become humble and subject themselves 100% to the will of the HEAD of the Church whom they profess to proclaim? Even the Apostle Peter referred to Apostle Paul just as "Brother" (2Pet.3:15) according to the Command of Christ.
Or will you feel threatened if you are not addressed by your "title" of Father or Bishop or Pastor or Whatever, If you are called Brother or Sister so and so in Church and public?
Think about Jesus Himself, who doesn't mind at all that even the youngest child or most humble human strip Him from Cloth and Title and call Him just by His Name: JESUS!
